Craigslist earns $81 million for 2008
In a testament to grassroots, online community advertising and social networking, Craiglist has single-handedly forced newspaper and online classified advertising to re-evaluate their practices.
Craigslist eschews any of the glossy, slow-loading and irrelevant advertising that crowds the computer screens like other online classifieds, especially those produced by traditional newspaper companies. With it’s straight to the point posting system, Craiglist is easy to use even by the most neophyte of internet users.
Craigslist is also very attractive for employers to post job openings without paying the exorbitant, some may feel extortionist, fees charged by many online job posting websites. Craiglist users can search and post classified listings for everything from personals ads to vehicle sales.
The fact that 2008 revenue for Craigslist comes in at $81 million makes industry researchers wonder what the potential earnings would be for Craigslist if it charged minimal fees for posts and increased the fee for their paid job posting classifieds.
