Your landing page has to be highly targeted so if a user clicked your ad expecting to find dog collars for instance, then you have to make sure that dog collars are on the landing page. There is not better way to lose a prospective customer than by not giving him what it is that he is looking for.
The role of your landing page is to convert your clicks into leads or sales. Therefore you should create your page so that a user does not have to click more than three times in order to make a purchase. Remember that the more clicks you include, the less sales you will earn.
