What is duplicate content?

Duplicate content are paragraphs or blocks of content that are the same on multiple pages within the site. Meaning that the text content is identical or at least very similar.

What does Google say about duplicate content?

Google says quite a few things about this type of content, you can read google help pages on it. Basically they advise against it in most cases.

What does Google actually do if it finds duplicate content on a site?

Google has a filer that tracks for duplicate content. They obviously will want to present unique content in search results and because of that they may rank the most relavant page and not rank others with duplicate content, basically they will pick one page.
