Getting To Know Google Spiders
Everyone wants their website to rank at the number one spot on Google. Anyone who tells you that they do not care about ranking high within the pages of Google is apparently very misinformed.
Software robots or bots are called spiders. These spiders build lists of words they find on websites. This is called crawling. Spiders crawl throughout the web and index what they find. They also follow every link found on a webpage which allows spiders to travel quickly across the web indexing pages. Google has very sophisticated algorithms that determine how much time a spider can spend on your website.
If you want your site to be displayed in the results pages the spiders have to fully index your site. If you wish to make your site spider-friendly, be sure not to have duplicate content on your site. It is a total waste of time for the spiders to index pages that they already have.
Be sure to create an architecturally sound site with having two to three clicks to reach a page the best. If a spider has to crawl too deep it may never find those pages.
You should create an XML sitemap on your site as it helps to speed up the practice of indexing your site in the first place. Finally, be sure to create content that people will want to read and hopefully, share with others.
