Google Phases out Support for Internet Explorer 6
If you have a Google account you’ve probably received an email from Google talking about Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6 (IE6).
Starting March 1, Google will no longer support IE6 on Google Docs and Google Sites services. IE users will have to upgrade to version 7 or better if they wish to use these services.
There was a flaw detected and exploited in the recent cyber attacks against Google and other companies that make Microsoft do a rate patch release in January of this year. IE6 is considered to be much weaker than the more recent versions of Internet Explorer and the use of IE6 has dropped significantly since IE8 became available although there are still 13.5 percent of all web surfers using IE3-many perhaps being unaware of upgrades.
If you wish to use the services mentioned above, you will be forced to make the upgrade to the more secure Internet Explorer browser versions. Google set the baseline for other browsers at Firefox 3.0 or higher and Safari 3.0 or higher. Google expects the word to spread to those 13% as Google Docs and Google Sites services are very popular and are used by many internet users.
