Interactive Marketing – Empowering Customers
The Internet has changed the marketing landscape. Marketing online now has an aspect called ‘interactive marketing’—an on-going conversation between the company and the consumer. The customer will tell you something, and interactive marketing is your skill in responding to the customer in ways that show that you remember what the customer said before. The best example is Amazon.com. When customers punch in their preferences, they are showcased books that fit their prior purchases and preferences.
Before, marketing was a one-way street, with the advertising power telling us what to think and ignoring our reaction in the process. Back then, they controlled the message, medium, product, and price. We, the consumers, could only either buy the product or not.
Interactive marketing is the next step. It empowers consumers, trusts their preferences, makes use of their feedback to improve the product and raise customer satisfaction.
The advertising power no longer has complete control over the message and brand. They share this control with their customers. The customer, through the web, gets to tell his friends about his product experience. Interactive marketers need to make sure they take part in that conversation, and relay the customers’ attitudes and thoughts back to the companies.
