Is Having Multiple Domains a Good Thing?

Having multiple domains can be a good thing for your SEO as long as you have several topics that could each support their own website, in this case, it might be worth having multiple domains because search engines usually list only one page per domain for any given search result so you can focus topics on different sites. Also, directories usually accept only home pages and in this case you can get more directory listings this way. Having a site dedicated to campus college programs and another to distance learning programs for instance could be a good thing. Another thing to consider is subdomains on one single domain for different topics, this can also be a good thing as long as you perform SEO for those subdomains too.

Getting multiple domains for place duplicate content and topics however, is not a good thing – you could get penalized for duplicate content from a search engine and not to mention you could be competing against yourself, not a good idea.
