Link Exchange Strategies
A recent link study on search engine ranking illustrates the importance of a well planning inbound link strategy. Google indexing found that inbound quality links, relevance, title keyword, anchor keyword and quantity are all major factors weighted in their ranking algorythm. Although, page content with keywords in the title & body text, anchor keywords and overall content relevance still have the most positive impact on the displayed ranking.
Yahoo also weights importance on inbound links. They look at links for relevance, anchor keyword and keywords in the title along with the quantity of links. Still Yahoo analyzes page content more off keywords in the title and body text as well as general content in addition to quality links.
MSN weights importance of links although their order is slightly different. They analyze quality, anchor keywords, relevance and keywords in the title. Quantity is also important but not as much as in Yahoo. Also, MSN weights page content importance in the title, body text and anchor keywords.
There is no substitution for quality content and properly coded pages. These are always the most important factors for page content development. But a well executed linking strategy can give you the competitive edge for being on 1st page results vs. 2nd, 3rd or higher.
