Microsoft and Yahoo! Team Up
The deal has been sealed at last! Microsoft and Yahoo have finally joined forces in the search engine wars to recapture some of the market share they have both lost to Google. Rumors about these two powerhouses coming together have been circulating around the internet for a few years but the official word came through in July. The Yahoo! search engine will be powered by Microsoft’s Bing search engine.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer believes that the 10-year global search agreement he and Yahoo’s Carol Bartz signed off on will give Microsoft’s Bing search engine enough size and market share to compete in today’s competitive market.
Many consumers, retailers, businesses and online advertisers will welcome any real competition for dominant search engine Google which has become so pervasive that its name has become a verb commonly used by mainstream society.
Industry specialists are skeptical of the new partnership’s ability to make a significant dent in the dominance of the leading search engine. You can count on the fact that SEO firms and online advertisers will be working on ways to maximize their exposure on the new Yahoo! Search engine. So far there has been a large amount of praise and adulation for the new look and layout of Yahoo!.
