Online Presence is Being Increased by Small Businesses
Microsoft adCenter has released the result of a survey that examined the search marketing behavior of 400 small business owners in the United States. The findings tell us that most of the businesses surveyed invest in web sites but fail to take even the simplest steps to enhance their online presence.
It was found that 59% of small businesses do not use paid search marketing and of those, 90% have never tried it at all. These are astounding numbers.
Seven in ten small business owners said that they would rather try to do their own taxes than start a paid search marketing campaign. These results are quite surprising, especially considering today’s poor economy. The small business owners who do use paid search marketing are very satisfied with 72 percent saying that their sales have increased.
Most of the survey takers said that they think it costs both time and money to conduct search marketing campaigns-both of which they have little of. Nearly all surveyed said that they think keywords are too expensive and one-third of them said that they feared that they would need to employ an agency to carry out the campaign for them.
Microsoft’s QuickLaunch program offers free consultation with a search expert for advertisers who set a minimum month budget of $500. However, choosing an experienced online marketing company is also a good idea since that is their primary focus and they will usually be prepared to take a specialized approach to a company’s needs.
