Protecting your website from lawsuits
Depending on the laws in your country and/or state, your website and its contents could offend some people who may file lawsuits against you and/or your site.
This action may lead to the company hosting your site to take down your blog or website. Protecting your website from lawsuits means being aware of several “policies” including the range of content a host site allows (if you run a blog) and some journalism cardinal rules of not posting info, especially unverified, that might damage the reputation of people and companies.
Lawsuits already filed include those blogs or sites that post info providing unbalanced commentary in strong language; sites that post rumors that affect consumer confidence regarding certain products; and sites that publish material that are copyrighted.
While it is true that some sites offer disclaimers, such as not necessarily sharing the points of views of its members who post, it would still be prudent to avoid lawsuits.
