SEO is Changing Thanks to Latent Semantic Indexing

What is latent semantic indexing you ask? It is a way to create web content that will get indexed by the search engines so as to obtain the best possible search results positioning. This technique has been around awhile but relatively few SEO and SEM professionals actively use it.

Latent semantic indexing or LSI uses a series of related words in each piece of content. All of the words relate to the main keywords that the page which is being optimized. Instead of repeating the keywords a certain number of times, related words are used throughout the piece.

The whole purpose is to create content that can be quickly indexed in the same way that a person would rank a page. For example, if you were reading a book and wanted to rank the information according to value and relevance, you would rank that book on the actual information provided and not on the number of keywords being used.

Even though Google will not say what exactly it takes into consideration when ranking a website, the rumor mill is telling us that Google likes latent semantic indexing and that it carries a lot of weight. This has caused many webmasters to stop using a targeted keyword throughout an article but instead to sprinkle words that are related to the keyword throughout the page.
