Yahoo! is one of the most popular engines on the web and is second only to Google Search. It started out as a subject directory for sites. It has now grown into a search engine, directory and portal.
In February 2004, Yahoo! introduced its own search engine database (up to then it had used other vendors’ databases) from which the bulk of its results are sourced.
When you use Yahoo! Search, you will also encounter a few internal links and some sponsored links or ads. Some of the Yahoo’s databases include web pages, images, video, audio, sponsor results, local search, MyYahoo etc.
The Yahoo Search’s biggest advantage is that it has a comprehensive and unique search database. It also includes cached copies of pages and supports full boolean searching and wild card characters in the key phrases.
Another good feature is that it includes internal links to the Yahoo Directory. The not so good facts are that it does not support features like truncation, indexes only the first 500KB of a page and follows the paid inclusion method for indexing of web pages.
