Video Ads and Google’s subtle BIG announcement
It seems the online video ad unit is getting a lot of attention these days. First, it was AOL’s announced purchase of LighteningCast, a rich media ad network. It’s going to operate under the Advertising.com division. What, the TW TV reps won’t be cross selling these video ads??? Apparantly you need a little more technical expertise in servicing these budgets.
The other big news was more of a subtle “oh by the way” announcement from Google. They’re launching a video ad network across their AdSense program. Their vast affiliates can sign up to accept these ads. The ads will not be displayed initially on Google.com properties. Although users must click on the ad to actually view it. Google wants to offer users a non-intrusive ad experience while giving buyers a chance to test TV ads online to deem the best ad for later broadcast TV buys. Do we have that much free time to want to click on an ad? How long until the click fraud artists taint this new experience? It will happen.
Nonetheless, these announcements are the spark needed to revolutionize the online video ad market which is expected to triple by ‘07 to nearly a billion dollars in revenue. Expect a flurry of new developments to take place as more brand ad spending continues to pour into online channels.
