What are Meta Data / Meta Tags
Meta data / Meta tag has nothing to do with the Meta physical elements. It is something technical! Meta data is the information about the data. Meta data and Meta tags are HTML or XHTML elements and are used to describe a data or keywords. Meta data and Meta tags are place in the head section of HTML or XHTML documents as tags.
Meta data and the Meta tags help in search engine optimization and are responsible for giving information about any given webpage. These Meta elements are not directly visible to the users of the webpage but are visible to search engine spiders.
