Yahoo, Bing & Search Engine Marketing

As you may know, Microsoft and Yahoo are merging their search services in hopes of competing with Google. Microsoft’s Bing (www.bing.com) search engine will power Yahoo Search and Yahoo Search Marketing will be run by Microsoft AdCenter.

You may have seen the television ads for Bing or perhaps you’ve received a notice from your PPC account about the merger. At this time, site owners should keep an eye on rankings during the merge, especially within Yahoo because they will most likely change once the search engine is replaced by Bing.

Bing puts a lot of emphasis on the age of a domain, great for older sites, but if you’re a newer site you might have to work a little harder getting good search results. Bing also puts a lot more emphasis on title tags so be sure to use your best keywords in the title tags of every page on your site.

As many search engine marketing experts know, Google puts little emphasis on how much text you have on a web page but rather concentrates on the quality of the content. Bing places a higher value on pages that have 350 or more words.

It is possible to obtain a happy medium between Bing and Google when planning your page optimization and SEO strategies. If you concentrate your efforts on both engines you will probably want to continue to give Google more consideration since it’s still the highest used search engine.

Optimization for the new Bing search engine now could prove to be very instrumental in getting your site ranked highly.
